The 31-year-old Kaizer Chiefs captain was notably absent when Amakhosi suffered a 3-0 Soweto derby defeat to Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium last weekend.

Co-coach Cedric Kaze confirmed after the match that the keeper had missed the clash for health reasons.

KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER BRANDON PETERSEN FACING RECOVERY PERIOD

Petersen has been one of Amakhosi’s most consistent performers this season, playing 16 Betway Premiership matches and keeping an impressive 11 clean sheets, second only to Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine in the league standings.

According to a source close to the club, Petersen’s surgery was successful, and the early stages of recovery are going well, but doctors have advised a short spell away from football before he returns.

“As the coach said, the surgery went very well, and he is recovering well. He is out of the hospital but still recovering,” a source told Soccer Laduma. “According to the doctors, it will take three weeks for him to come back. No, I am not sure if he will play against Durban City on the 15th of March.

“That’s the team’s next game. But obviously, he will be back after the FIFA break later this month,” he added.

The expected recovery timeline means Petersen could miss the upcoming Betway Premiership fixture against Durban City scheduled for 15 March.

The absence comes at a tricky moment for Amakhosi, who are already trying to steady themselves after a difficult run of results in recent weeks.

Since joining Chiefs from Bidvest Wits via Ajax Cape Town, Petersen has grown into a key figure at Naturena, providing leadership and calmness at the back.

For now, the focus will be on recovery, with Chiefs hopeful their number one returns healthy once the FIFA break concludes later this month.
