Cardoso On Adams Revival – iDiski Times

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up on Jayden Adams’ revival at the club making an admission about the midfielder in the previous year.

Adams, 24, spent most of the first round of the season on the sidelines but the turn of the New Year has seen him enjoying game time starting in seven matches including in the 3-1 win over Sekhukhune United in the league over the weekend.

Cardoso says he is privileged to work with high quality players including the former Stellies man but that privileged also comes with its own headaches as he has limited opportunities to give all of them chances especially after exiting the Nedbank Cup.

The coach went on speak about how pleased he is with Adams’ versatility and intelligence.

“Jayden is a fantastic player no doubt,” said Cardoso.

“Jayden had the moment that he was on the other side obviously, because maybe he was not working hard enough, or the other ones were working more with showing more than himself.

“Those moments can happen in the season, and the players also fluctuate their performance. No doubt that he’s an extraordinary player, a player that can play in different positions as you know.

“Last year, I think we were not really fair with him because we used him mostly a little bit like today. He started as a six today, as you saw Marcelo [Allende], more higher, like a 10 let’s say or going for a 10 position.

“And perhaps like an eight more similar to how he plays in the national team. But then I understood that we were with difficulties to break, to put something different in the front, and I changed it.

“And when you create these adaptations on a player, sometimes it can even touch his performance. But I think he did well, very well. He understood the different moments.

“Then he came back again when we took Tash [Tashreeq Matthews]. He’s a very intelligent player and technically high level, so it’s a good moment from him.

“I’m very happy, of course, because I also suffer when I see players that like to express themselves and they don’t have a chance to do it. Nowadays, I’m suffering for Bathusi [Aubaas] a lot. I’m suffering from Miguel [Reisinho] a lot, and I’m suffering from Pitso [Siphelele Mkhulise] a lot.

“And when I hug them it’s really with tears on my heart because as much as I want, I cannot give them chances.”
