Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a major blow with two experienced players out of action due to injuries.
Brandon Petersen and Miguel Inacio are doubtful for Amakhosi’s next match against Durban City on 15 March. Having suffered three consecutive defeats, the Soweto giants are desperate to turn the corner.
After a Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates, Chiefs suffered another devastating loss to Richards Bay on Tuesday.
Before the Tuesday match, an experienced defender, Miguel Inacio, was replaced at the back with Bradley Cross.
“I believe we were a little bit shaky in our defence,” Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze said.
The injury of Miguel during the warm-up and the suspension of Zitha, you have to change the whole defence as well. I believe that mostly that cost us the game.”
Kaizer Chiefs to be without Petersen
Having been the team’s best player this season, Amakhosi suffered a major blow on Saturday when it was announced that Brandon Petersen would not feature in the Soweto Derby. The Chiefs captain underwent surgery last week and is expected to return to action at the end of March.
Another injury for the Glamour Boys is Rushwin Dortley. The 23-year-old talented defender suffered a knee injury a year ago and has missed over 40 official matches for the club.
The Bafana Bafana star has since been replaced by the likes of Aden McCarthy and Zitha Kwinika.
Kaizer Chiefs have 12 games remaining to save their season. A top-three finish will salvage their disastrous campaign, but anything less will be seen as a failure given their poor run in cup competition.
