Kaizer Chiefs endured yet another humbling weekend as Orlando Pirates handed them a 3-0 drubbing at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The streak of disappointing results has left supporters frustrated and the club’s ambitions in jeopardy.
KAIZER CHIEFS LOSE GROUND ON SEASON AMBITIONS
The Glamour Boys’ struggles stretch beyond the derby, with the team having exited the CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-1 loss to Zamalek. It followed right after a first-round exit from the Nedbank Cup crown after a shock defeat to Stellenbosch FC.
Another defeat to Stellies followed midweek in another 2-1 loss in the league at the FNB Stadium.
The cumulative effect of these results leaves Chiefs sitting fifth in the Betway Premiership with 30 points after 17 matches, a position that makes challenging for the title increasingly unlikely.
ITUMELENG KHUNE’S CALLOUT
It was in the wake of these setbacks that club legend Itumeleng Khune, still regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers to come through Amakhosi’s ranks with over 300 appearances to his name, took to Instagram to issue a blunt warning to the current squad.
“At least RESPECT the CHAIRMAN, LEGENDS and the AMAKHOSI DIE HARD SUPPORTERS Gents,” he wrote, adding succinctly, “Total Disrespect.”

With morale clearly low, Chiefs will be hoping to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next Betway Premiership assignment.
It is an away trip to KwaZulu-Natal to face Richards Bay at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Tuesday, 3 March, a fixture that offers a chance to arrest the slide and begin restoring pride in the shirt.
With the Betway Premiership dream seemingly slipping away, Chiefs will be aiming to finish in the top three. Second place will return Amakhosi to the CAF Champions Leauge, while third position will secure another run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
