Kaizer Chiefs have to make this announcement

With next season approaching, Kaizer Chiefs are once again facing a major technical decision.

According to small whispers, the coaches linked with Amakhosi duly have comprehensive South African Premier Soccer League experience and success, but are currently still attached to clubs. They would only be available to start next season.

That reality makes the next step clear.

KAIZER CHIEFS NEED TO APPOINT AND ANNOUNCE A TECHNICAL DIRECTOR NOW

The Soweto giants need to appoint a Technical Director. It should happen now to kick off preparations and oversee player recruitment ahead of the new campaign.

As modern football often dictates at mega clubs like Amakhosi, the head coach works closely with a Technical Director within a structured leadership model. Kaizer Jr, as Sporting Director, would remain in what is often described as a tri-pillared partnership.

According to Universidad Europea, this structure works as follows: “The Sporting Director serves as the executive bridge between ownership and the field. He oversees broad operations including transfer negotiations, budget management and long-term strategy.”

The Technical Director focuses specifically on the on-pitch philosophy, managing recruitment and the youth academy to ensure a consistent playing style across all levels. The Head Coach then executes this shared vision in the short term, focusing on match preparation, tactical decisions and daily player management.

“Together, they form a system where the Sporting Director provides financial and administrative oversight, the Technical Director designs the football blueprint, and the Head Coach delivers results,” the note added.

In this context, the Technical Director should be appointed immediately and take charge of the team as an interim coach.

Kaizer Chiefs have made similar structural decisions before, appointing Molefi Ntseki as head of technical and youth development in 2021, and Cavin Johnson in 2023. This time, however, the appointment would need to carry greater profile and extensive PSL experience.

NAMES OF CANDIDATES TO EXPECT

Ideally, the Technical Director should also have a previous working relationship with the incoming head coach. Possible structural combinations could include Pitso Mosimane as Technical Director alongside Rulani Mokwena or Manqoba Mngqithi as head coach.

Another example could be Ernst Middendorp as Technical Director with Fadlu Davids as head coach. TS Galaxy’s Nermin Basic could serve as Technical Director with Sead Ramovic as head coach.

The priority now is timing. If the next head coach will only arrive at the start of next season, Kaizer Chiefs cannot afford to delay the appointment of the Technical Director, who will shape recruitment and long-term planning.
