It’s been a long wait between drinks for Kaizer Chiefs fans when it comes to celebrating top-dog status in the Premier Soccer League.

That season’s final day matches took place on Saturday, 9 May 2015 – which was some 3 945 days ago as at the time of publishing.
Kaizer Chiefs won the title by 12 points that season, so would’ve wrapped up their victory even longer ago.
‘Mamelodi Sundowns show’
Since then, it’s been largely the ‘Mamelodi Sundowns show’ with Masandawana winning nine of the subsequent 10 titles (including the last eight in a row).

Perhaps the only consoling factor for Kaizer Chiefs fans is the fact that their bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates, have had an even longer wait since their most recent PSL title back in the 2011/12 season which wrapped up 5 030 days ago!
Slipping away
This season’s title appears to be slipping away from Kaizer Chiefs after defeat in their most recent home fixture against Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday evening.
That defeat left the Glamour Boys eight points behind joint-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. However, Kaizer Chiefs do have a game in hand over both their rivals.
The loss against Stellies has increased the pressure on Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Saturday’s Soweto derby against the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium (15:30).
Kaizer Chiefs have been eliminated from CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup contention, leaving the league as their final chance at silverware.
