Orlando Pirates midfielder Kabelo Dlamini is reportedly set to join rivals Kaizer Chiefs after allegedly signing a pre-contract agreement.
The 29-year-old attacker has struggled for regular game time under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou this season, fuelling speculation about his future at the Buccaneers.
However, there has been no official confirmation from either club or the player’s representatives regarding the reported move.
Former Amakhosi defender Tsepo Masilela believes Dlamini would be an outstanding addition to Chiefs’ midfield.
Speaking on Soccer Beat, Masilela said the versatile playmaker would add a new dimension to the team.
“If I look at the Kaizer Chiefs midfield, I think he brings a different dimension. He can play as a No.10 or as a No.8. On set-pieces, he’s deadly especially from free-kicks,” said Masilela.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen a player as good as he is. The last one was Shabba,” he added, referring to Siphiwe Tshabalala. You need a player who can bail you out with free-kicks, and he’s that kind of player.”
If Chiefs sign Dlamini from Pirates, the move would mark a significant transfer between the Soweto giants and could add extra spice to future derbies.
Another Pirates star linked with a move away from the club is Bandile Shandu. The right-back has not played much under Ouaddou this season.
His agent Mike Makaab said they were waiting on the club regarding the defender’s future.
Could Chiefs sign another Pirates star?
“Bandile Shandu is contracted to Orlando Pirates, and for us it is just to wait for the club to make a decision on the player. In this situation, they have the first preference,” Makaab told FARPost.
“We are open to any decision from Pirates, and should they opt against renewing the contract in the coming months, we’ll be left with no choice but to look for other options for Shandu,” he concluded.
