Former Kaizer Chiefs captain on Amakhosi’s co-coaching structure

Kaizer Chiefs have been without a full-time head coach since October, following the departure of Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi.

Khalil Youssef and Cedric Kaze took over to share the role, a decision that drew mixed reactions from former players and pundits.

LIFA GQOSHA: WHO IS ACCOUNTABLE?

Gqosha, who played for Kaizer Chiefs in the late 1990s, explained his concerns to Sowetan: “Judging by their performance before, it seemed a good decision based on the results. 

“I think now the mistake is that there’s no one accountable between the two. It becomes a problem because one will blame the other, and both come with different philosophies. Whose philosophy is working during the match?”

NOT EXPECTING LEAGUE GLORY FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

Despite the co-coaching arrangement, Kaizer Chiefs have maintained fourth place in the Betway Premiership but suffered early exits in both the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup, leaving the league as their sole focus.

Gqosha added: “I don’t see them taking the league, but we will finish within the top-eight bracket, which will be a big improvement from the previous season. 

“They cannot now chop and change, looking for a coach. By now, they should have started the process of finding an experienced coach for next season,” the former Kaizer Chiefs star concluded.

With the Betway Premiership race heating up, Kaizer Chiefs sit fourth, eight points adrift of leaders Orlando Pirates. However, holding two matches in hand gives Amakhosi an opportunity to narrow that deficit, starting with their clash against Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Soweto derby.
