Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has asserted the need for them to bounce back to winning ways after their shock Nedbank Cup exit on Saturday.
The Buccaneers saw their dream to win a quadruple come to an abrupt end following their Nedbank Cup Round of 16 defeat to Casric Stars at Orlando Amstel Arena.
It took a penalty shootout to decide the clash as the Motsepe Foundation Championship side emerged 5-4 winners after the match had ended with a 0-0 scoreline after 120 minutes.
Abdeslam Ouaddou’s charges also succumbed to their second back-to-back defeat after going down 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership in midweek.
Skipper Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mpho Chabatsane and Nkosikhona Ndaba missed their spot kicks as they bowed out in the second round for the first time in four years, while Casric secured a spot in the quarter-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
Appollis felt hard done by the countless chances they created but remained positive that they will bounce in next weekend’s Soweto Derby clash against fierce rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
“It’s a difficult one to swallow but I think the boys fought today, we create so many chances and we couldn’t score today,” he told OP TV.
“We will definitely bounce back. We have a whole week to prepare for our next game, so we’ll definitely putting in the next work to focus on our next game.”
While Chiefs host Stellenbosch FC in the league on Tuesday at FNB Stadium, Pirates will have the entire week off ahead of the hugely anticipated rivalry tie at the Calabash on Saturday, 28 February, at 15:00.
