How Thando Ngwenya is driving AmaZulu’s 2025/26 campaign

Posted on February 18, 2026

The Zimbabwean forwad Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is proving to be an important addition to the South African Betway Premiership side Amazulu Football Club this season.

Ngwenya, who joined Usuthu from Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum, has emerged as one of the AmaZulu’s outstanding players in the 2025/2026 season with crucial goals and key contributions.

Thando Ngwenya: A consistent scorer for Amazulu FC

Ngwenya has been among the top scorers in the Betway Premiership this season.

With six goals across 14 matches, he ranks near the top of the league’s scoring charts, level with some of the division’s established finishers.

One of Ngwenya’s standout performances came against TS Galaxy in late January.

He came off the bench and scored twice and provided an assist during Amazulu’s 3-2 win.

That display highlighted not just his finishing ability, but his capacity to influence matches in the dying minutes.

Helping Amazulu in cup competition

Ngwenya has also proven to be Amazulu’s influential player, not only in the league.

In a Nedbank Cup tie against Polokwane City, the Zimbabwean national scored a winner during extra time, and secured Aamzulu’s progress in the competition.

The club sits strongly in the Premiership table and is pushing for a Top 4 finish, a target that would mark significant progress for the Durban outfit under his guidance.

A huge praise from Amazulu coach

Amazulu coach Arthur Zwane is excited by how the 23-year-old ‘is growing in stature’ to become their veritable goal-getter.

“Thando is growing in stature. And obviously, as a striker, you always want to score. It’s good for him, and we’re happy for him,” Zwane said.

“He’s there scoring goals and assisting others. But he’s more of a sniper. Trust me, if Thando took many other chances that we have created – I’m talking not half chances, but one-on-one opportunities – Thando would have been a top goal-scorer in his first season.

“But we always say everything happens for a reason. Probably, if he was a top goal-scorer, that would be too much for him. We still need him going forward…”

Growing influence on the pitch

What makes Ngwenya’s contribution particularly valuable is its timing.

He has been involved in key comeback wins and has shown the temperament to decide tight matches, qualities any coach would value in a forward.

As AmaZulu continue their 2026 campaign, Ngwenya’s form remains central to their hopes.

Whether it’s chasing silverware in the Nedbank Cup or securing a strong league finish, the Zimbabwean striker has become one of Usuthu’s most reliable weapons this season.
