Orlando Pirates chasing R27 million in three months

Posted on February 18, 2026

Orlando Pirates have already earned over R20 million for winning three trophies and participating in the CAF Champions League this season.

With the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup still up for grabs, the Sea Robbers can still claim more trophies and prize money.

Currently, the Buccaneers are first in the Betway Premiership after 16 matches played. On Wednesday, they face their toughest challenge of the season as they host reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The two teams have faced each other three times already this campaign, with all matches ending in a draw.

Can Orlando Pirates claim R20 million or more?

By winning the Betway Premiership, the Buccaneers will earn R20 million. The last time they won the league was back in 2012, when the winners received around R10 million.

Pirates are still in the Nedbank Cup having reached the round of 16 last week. In the past three years, they made three consecutive finals, winning two of them. Should they claim the league and Nedbank Cup, Orlando Pirates will get R27 million.

This will make their earnings closer to R50 million in total in just one season.

With the PSL Awards coming up, the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis and Lebone Seema could win big given their impact this season.

The Sea Robbers have already benefited from the sale of several players this season. Mbekezeli Mbokazi left Orlando Pirates for nearly R50 million, and Mohau Nkota was also sold for a similar price.

The Buccaneers won the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup this season.

Will Pirates win more trophies this season?
