Former Pirates and Sundowns winger finally finds new club

Posted on February 18, 2026

A former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kudakwashe Mahachi has made his eagerly-awaited return to football.

Mahachi has been plagued by off-field issues over the past few years.

The talented winger has over 180 appearences in the PSL for the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Golden Arrows and SuperSport United.

Now, he looks set to finally return to football after signing for Zimbabwean giants Highlanders FC.

Former Pirates and Downs winger signs for Highlanders

Highlanders FC will be able to call upon the experience and talent of Kudakwashe Mahachi for the upcoming campaign.

The talented former Orlando Pirates star has been struggling to find his feet after lengthy off-field legal issues.

Now, he’ll be hoping to resurrect his career back home in Zimbabwe at a familiar club.

“So, I’m promising the fans to make them happy every day, happy every week. So, we’re hoping to win every game that we’re going to play. I’ve got a big job to do because I’ve got great young stars,” the former Pirates star said as quoted by FARPost.

“I’m emotional because I haven’t been playing regularly for two years. So, coming to Highlanders is a good thing for me. Winning against Dynamos in the first game is a good thing for me. So, I’m looking forward to the season.”

Mahachi’s numbers in the PSL

Mahachi enjoyed a solid spell in South Africa between 2014 and 2022. He first joined Mamelodi Sundowns before moving on to Golden Arrows.

At Arrows he showed his real talent and was later snapped up by Orlando Pirates in 2018.

His stay at the Buccaneers was short but impactful. He then joined SuperSport United in 2019 where he spent the next three years.

In total, Mahachi scored 23 goals, while assisting 21 more in South Africa.
