Kaizer Chiefs failed to meet the asking price of Bafana defender

Posted on February 13, 2026

Fawaaz Basadien’s agent Basia Michaels has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs made a formal offer for the Mamelodi Sundowns star.

Basadien was rated as one of the country’s top left-backs during his Stellenbosch days. He was heavily linked with a move to Chiefs in 2024 but ultimately ended up joining rivals Sundowns.

His move to Chlorkop is regarded as a failure, with the Bafana Bafana left-back having only made a handful of appearances since he joined the Brazilians.

Michaels told the Behind The Boot podcast that Kaizer Chiefs failed to meet the asking price of Basadien.

“There was interest from Chiefs, and there was actually a formal offer from Chiefs as well from what I know, and it just didn’t meet the asking price,” she said.

“A player has a valuation according to the club that they come from. And the club that is buying the player can put down a certain amount of money.”

Kaizer Chiefs signed Shinga, Mako instead

Amakhosi have three left-backs but many might argue that Basadien would have been one of the club’s best signings. His quality and experience made Stellenbosch FC one of the top teams in the country for three years.

Bradley Cross, Nkhanyiso Shinga and Paseka Mako are good players but Amakhosi would have been stronger if they had Basadien.

Aubrey Modiba and Divine Lunga are ahead of Basadien in the pecking order at Sundowns. If the situation doesn’t change, the ex-Stellies man might be loaned out however, it is unlikely that the Tshwane giants will want to loan him to Kaizer Chiefs.

Do you think Amakhosi should have gotten Basadien?
