Motaung explains why Chiefs kept the two coaches

Posted on February 12, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has clarified the club’s decision to retain Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze following the dismissal of Nasreddine Nabi.

The two served as assistant coaches under Nabi before stepping up to lead the team in September.

Since taking over, Youssef and Kaze have guided Amakhosi in their pursuit of both the league title and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Motaung on Chiefs’ season so far

Motaung has explained why the club decided against hiring a new coach after Nabi was sacked last year.

“The planning and the consistency that we kept with the technical staff and the planning last season and this season in terms of player acquisitions and looking at what type of quality players we’ve got now,” he said as per GOAL.

“It’s not easy for some of them because some started this season, some started last season, and it’s not easy for them, too.”

Motaung admits Chiefs are not where they want to be this season, despite challenging for the Betway Premiership and CAF Confederation Cup.

“We’re not yet where we want to be in terms of scoring those goals that we need and achieving what we’re looking for. But if you look at the consistency of us keeping the technical staff and obviously managing the squad, it’s helped us a lot. It’s helping us a lot, even for the future. Even for the future, look at the generation that we’ve got now.

“It’s a young generation, and they need, they really need to be given time and competition. But keeping the technical staff was more important,” the Amakhosi boss concluded.

Motaung did not make any major signings during the transfer window, but will that haunt Kaizer Chiefs in the coming matches?

Do you think Chiefs should keep Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze?
