Itumeleng Khune names his favourite Kaizer Chiefs player

Posted on February 8, 2026

Following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Al Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup, Kaizer Chiefs icon Khune explained why Lilepo is the player he enjoys watching.

Coming into today’s game with five goals this season, the 28-year-old Congolese winger played a major role in Amakhosi’s penalty to open the lead.

WHY KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND ITUMELENG KHUNE LOVES GLODY LILEPO

“It came through my favourite player in this Kaizer Chiefs, Glody Lilepo,” Kune said on SABC Sport. “He loves to take shots. Always gets himself in the right positions,” the legend added.

INSTANT IMPACT IN SOWETO

Lilepo did not need time to settle at Amakhosi. From the moment he arrived in January 2025, the Congolese winger looked like a player who already understood the weight of the badge.

Signed from French side Valenciennes FC for a reported fee of around R9.6 million, Lilepo was thrown straight into the deep end, making his debut in a Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates just days after landing in South Africa.

What followed was immediate impact. Despite joining midway through the season, Lilepo quickly became central to Kaizer Chiefs’ attack and played a key role in ending the club’s long trophy drought by helping Amakhosi lift the 2025 Nedbank Cup.

He finished the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign as Kaizer Chiefs’ top goalscorer with six goals and one assist from only 15 appearances.

That form has not faded. Heading into early 2026, Lilepo has carried his momentum into the 2025/26 season, continuing to deliver in both domestic and continental competitions.

Back-to-back winning goals against Marumo Gallants and ZESCO United underlined his growing importance, especially in high-pressure situations.

Now firmly established as a key player, Lilepo stands as Kaizer Chiefs’ primary attacking weapon, a player trusted to decide matches as Amakhosi chase more silverware and push for continental success.

CAN HE GO ON TO BECOME A KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND?
