Petersen – That’s How I Will Get Into Bafana

Posted on February 8, 2026

In-form Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has opened up on prospects of receiving a Bafana Bafana call-up amid his top form.

Last season, Petersen was seemingly a second-choice goalkeeper for Amakhosi, making only five appearances across all competitions – four in the Betway Premiership and one in the Nedbank Cup.

Bruce Bvuma was the number one goalie for the then Nasreddine Nabi-led side, racking up 23 appearances – 19 in the league and four in the Nedbank Cup.

However, it all changed at the end of the season, when Petersen was surprisingly thrown in during the Nedbank Cup final, helping Chiefs win the trophy against Orlando Pirates.

This season, he has been the last solid wall in their defence, making 23 appearances and keeping 15 clean sheets in the process.

Many have called for his Bafana selection even before AFCON, which took place in Morocco over the last two months; however, he missed out.

He says he will continue delivering solid performances at club level, believing that this is the only way to earn a place in the Bafana team, especially with the FIFA World Cup coming up in June.

“I think for me, as I said before my focus at the club, that’s how I will get into the national team,” said Petersen.

“I have to focus on my performances and be consistent, just try to do well for the team and that could open doors for me.”
