Kanu On What Kwayiba Had To Work On After Pirates Return

Posted on February 8, 2026

Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says the club had to work on the psychological aspect of Sinoxolo Kwayiba following his return to the team.

Kwayiba was re-signed permanently by the Chilli Boys after spending just six months at Orlando Pirates, whom he joined from Chippa at the start of the season.

The 25-year-old endured a difficult spell at the Soweto giants, making only four appearances during his time at the club, all of which came as a substitute.

Vilakazi believes Kwayiba remains an important player for Chippa United and has backed him to play a key role for the team this season, adding that restoring the player’s confidence was a crucial part of his reintegration into the squad.

“He’s a key player, it’s very important to have Kwayiba in our set-up,” said Vilakazi.

“But also, we had to deal with his psychological aspects as well cause remember that he was not playing at Pirates.”

Vilakazi further revealed that he told Kwayiba to improve his goal-scoring in order to be considered again for Bafana Bafana, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching.

“When he was called in the national team, he was called because of scoring goals. So, I spoke to him and said, ‘this is your chance to go back to the national team and go for the World Cup, you just need to score,” he added.

“They identified you before, so they can still call you. So, he’s a key player for us. Didn’t score today but he’s doing very well. He’s still going to have a super impact.”
