Bobby On Ambitious Chiefs Targets For Season

Posted on February 6, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung says they need to challenge for the CAF Confederation Cup and the league after their first round Nedbank Cup exit.

The holders of the competition were knocked out by Stellenbosch in Cape Town with a 2-1 loss in mid-week and now turn their attention to Al Masry on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Chiefs are currently level on points with the Egyptian Premier League side (7) after four games played in Group D and need victory, before an away trip to Cairo to face leaders Zamalek, to complete proceedings.

“It’s a cup final for us on Sunday, we’re going there for a cup final, we need to qualify, we need to give hope again and be positive, we have been doing well so far, up to the loss on Wednesday,” Motaung said.

“We have to regain our confidence, come back, bounce back and be positive – for us it’s very important, we want to go the final of this cup, we have this cup to challenge for, and we have the league to challenge for.”

Amakhosi secured four consecutive 1-0 wins since the return from the Africa Cup of Nations enforced mid-season break before their domestic cup exit, that has put them within a title race after 15 games played, trailing rivals Orlando Pirates by five points.

“It’s interesting… we’re there to go for the final, go for the kill – in the league it’s also interesting, the margins are not much, and the focus is on it, on it to conquer,” he continued.

“We’re positive about it, positive we’re going to challenge, especially now being out of the Nedbank, we have to challenge holistically and go in for the kill.”

The two sides kick off on Sunday at 15h00 in Polokwane.
