Hunt reacts after beating Chiefs

Posted on February 5, 2026

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has shared his thoughts after his team knocked out Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Wednesday evening in Cape Town.

An early penalty from Ibraheem Jabaar, followed by a stunning strike from Devin Titus inside the opening 25 minutes, proved decisive as the home side secured a 2-1 victory to advance to the next round.

Coming into the match, Amakhosi were the favourites, having won four consecutive matches in 2026. Having not conceded a single goal in four matches, Chiefs found themselves on the back foot early on and were 2-0 down in the first quarter of the game.

Gavin Hunt haunts Chiefs

“Firstly, great performance, really tug in performance, I was disappointed we didn’t make it 3-1 there. They had chances because that’s what your goalkeeper is there for, it was a real cup tie on a very difficult pitch, hard to play and bumpy,” Hunt told after the game.

“But excellent, I want to commend everybody, I thought Wonderboy Makhubu was outstanding, proper number nine footballer, something we really need and so he is coming up tonight so fair play.

Hunt mentioned how it was important to pack the midfield against Chiefs.

“But to everybody, Titus, Jabaar, everybody in midfield it was important, trying to build something from here,” he added.

Both Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC turn their focus on the CAF Confederation Cup this coming weekend.

Can Kaizer Chiefs win a trophy this season or will they finish empty-handed?
