Petersen Collects The Fines At Chiefs – Kaze

Posted on February 4, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has earned special praise for his authoritative leadership amidst his sensational return to form in the 2025/26 season.

Petersen, 31, started his professional career at the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town where he emerged as one of the most promising goalkeepers in the country before a move to then league champions Bidvest Wits.

After just under 50 games for the club, where Petersen established himself as one of the leading stoppers in the country, the club was sold and a move to Amakhosi followed but form and fitness drew several question marks over his long-term future at the club.

Fiacre Ntwari was signed as the number one keeper last season, while Bruce Bvuma also earned a chance in the team amidst the question marks around Petersen but this season, he’s come to the fore with 15 clean sheets in 23 games in all competitions and as club captain.

This follows being introduced back into the line-up in the Nedbank Cup final, where Chiefs ended their decade-long trophy drought by beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“I would say character wise, he’s been the same since last season, since I’ve got here to this team I have found a very responsible player, even without wearing the armband, he is a figure of authority amongst the players, he’s the one collecting fines, he’s the one writing up players who are late, he’s a player with authority that everyone respects in the club,” he said.

“Good things happen to good people and his commitment and dedication to training, sometimes last season he wasn’t playing but the level of commitment and dedication, at training every single day without complaining was unbelievable.

“And now with the chance he’s been given he has proved to everyone that he’s a very good goalkeeper and he’s a very good leader too.”

Petersen has yet to be capped by the senior national team and was last called up to the squad back in 2018 for international friendlies against Angola and Zambia.
