Matlou Opens Up On Social Media Criticism

Posted on February 4, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou has identified social media attacks as on the pressures of being an Amakhosi player.

Matlou has been at Naturena since 2022 but hasn’t enjoyed a lot of game time being interrupted by injuries. Even this season, he has just one appearance in all competitions with the technical staff expecting to have him back for the second round of the campaign, having returned to full training last week.

Matlou has also endured a love and hate relationship with the club fan base, and the 27-year-old spoke about the pressures of playing or a big team on Gagasi FM where he also said one needs to be resilient to focus on their job.

“I’m going to talk about myself because there was a moment I wasn’t playing so you can just imagine you go on social media or anywhere,” said Matlou.

“So, you’ll see that now this one is not playing. Yes, I was attacked, things were said about me. So, you can just imagine what was happening in me.

“So, pressure is there, so you have to just maybe forget about what people say and you know what you’re good at. So, focus on football.

“People always talk whether you do good or bad. So, as a professional player, you should know that you play good this game, people will be happy.

“Next game you have a bad game; they will still speak. So, forget about what people say and focus on your job and help your team to get the results and stuff.”
