Kaizer Chiefs have dropped back into third place in their CAF Champions Confederations Cup group after Zamalek beat Al Masry in the late Sunday kick off.
Earlier, Amakhosi collected another 1-0 win over ZESCO United thanks to Glody Lilepo’s only goal of the match.
The victory had seen Chiefs move into second with seven points from four games, however that was before the late kick off.
Zamalek beat Al Masry to move atop of Group D and draw the group wide open. The 2023/24 winners now have eight points, one more than Al Masry and Chiefs.
Meanwhile, ZESCO have been eliminated after remaining on zero points from four matches.
Next week, Amakhosi have another must-win fixture against Al Masry at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
With both on seven points and the Egyptian beating Chiefs in the reverse fixture, the Glamour Boys need to beat Masry to keep their fate in their own hands before traveling to Zamalek on the final match day.
Updated log:
- Zamalek – 8 pts (+2)
- Al Masry – 7 pts (+1)
- Chiefs – 7 pts (+1)
- ZESCO – 0 pts (-4)
