Kaze Likens Kwinika To Ex-Arsenal Star

Posted on February 1, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has likened defender Zitha Kwinika to former Arsenal and Ivory Coast star Kolo Touré.

The 32-year-old defender was considered a fringe player before emerging as a key figure and delivering impressive performances towards the end of last season.

Kwinika seized his opportunity and quickly proved his value to the team with his consistency, leadership, and determination on the field.

He played a significant role in helping Amakhosi lift the Nedbank Cup, featuring prominently in the final victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Kaze revealed that last season he was once asked which player he would take with him “to a war,” and without hesitation, he mentioned Zitha Kwinika.  According to Kaze, Kwinika embodies the qualities of a true fighter.

He went on to compare the defender to Kolo Touré, citing similarities in their fighting spirit, strong personality, and unwavering character, qualities that make Kwinika a reliable and influential presence in the squad.

“Last season, I was asked which player I would bring to a war if I have to choose one, I said Zitha Kwinika,” said Kaze.

“There’s a story, a player named Kolo Toure, he went to Arsenal for trial, first ball, he went on with two legs, almost broke the legs of Thierry Henry.

“Secondly, another play, he double tackles Dennis Bergkamp, the two best players of Arsenal.

“Everyone was convinced that this player won’t be signed because he almost broke the legs of two best players of the team.

“Arsene Wenger said, after that, ‘I’m gonna sign him because he has the personality, the character and everything else, I will teach him’, that’s Zitha Kwinika.”
