Chiefs Urged To Make January Striker Signing

Posted on January 26, 2026

Former SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok has urged Kaizer Chiefs to make a striker acquisition now in January to complement their work and to give themselves a proper shot in the CAF Confed Cup.

Amakhosi have had a rather quite January in terms of transfer activities with only one signing confirmed so far, that of South African junior international Xhosa Manyana on loan from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City.

Speaking on SABC TV after Chiefs’ 1-0 win over ZESCO United in the Confed Cup, Steenbok said the Nedbank Cup champions have to do what other big teams across the world are doing during transfer windows.

“All the big teams in the world do business in January and in June,” said Steenbok.

“So, it’s important that they need to do business. If you check the last two matches, they’ve scored from set pieces. So, I still feel that they still need at least a striker that can really complement the work that they are doing.

“Because if you check the February roster for them, the schedule is really, really demanding.

“So, they need to beat ZESCO again and then give themselves a chance in the Confed Cup. But to do that the strikers must score.”
