SABC to televise Sundowns CAF game

Posted on January 22, 2026

It’s been confirmed. SABC 2 will delight Mamelodi Sundowns followers with the live broadcast on Friday evening.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS VS AL-HILAL

The Betway Premiership holders are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run across all competitions, with six wins and four draws.

They sit top of the Premiership table after the 2-0 win over Orbit College, while also recording a 3-1 Champions League win over Saint-Eloi Lupopo and a 0-0 draw against MC Alger to kick off the group stage.

Al-Hilal arrive with momentum of their own. The Sudanese side are on a nine-game unbeaten streak. They have eight consecutive wins, and remain unbeaten in six matches in this season’s CAF Champions League.

Their best runs came in 1987 and 1992, when they reached the final but finished as runners-up to Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca, respectively.

Beyond those final appearances, Al-Hilal have regularly competed in the latter stages of the competition. They reached the semi-finals in 1966, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2015.

THE CHASE FOR THE SECOND STAR

Since winning the CAF Champions League in 2016, Sundowns have established themselves as African giants.

Kabo Yellows have regularly reached the quarter-finals in 2017. From the 2019/2020 season to the 2023–2024 campaign, Sundowns advanced to the quarter-finals in five consecutive seasons.

They also recorded notable semi-final runs in 2018.2019 and 2023.2024, with the latter ending in defeat to Miguel Cardoso’s Esperance and Rulani Mokwena’s shock exit.

Their most significant post-2016 achievement came in the 2024–2025 season, when Sundowns reached the CAF Champions League final for the first time since winning the tournament. They fell to the current champions, Pyramids FC of Egypt.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THIS SEASON FROM THE TSHWANE GIANTS?
