Kaizer Chiefs should be top of the log by now, claims ex-coach

Posted on January 22, 2026

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan claims Amakhosi should be top of the Betway Premiership log based on their performances.

The Soweto giants are third on the log after 14 matches, and are only two points away from log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs started the season well, claiming 13 points from a possible 15 in their opening five matches. Having changed coaches early in the season, they went on a slump, which saw them collect 14 points in their last nine league games.

Khan, however, feels Kaizer Chiefs would have topped the league if they were clinical in front of goals.

“If you look at it based on the amount of chances, Chiefs is one of the teams in the league that have created the most chances per se. With those chances and those draws, Chiefs should be top of the log by now, and I think goals are what matter when you want to win silverware,’ he said on Soccer Beat.

“Do you think the technical team did justice with this extended period to ensure that the team comes back different in what we’ve witnessed in the 13 matches played?”

Will Kaizer Chiefs top the log?

Amakhosi were denied top spot by Sekhukhune United for several rounds as both teams won their opening three matches but Babina Noko were ahead on goal difference.

After 14 rounds, Chiefs are third behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. The Buccaneers, though, have two matches in hand and could extend their gap to their Soweto rivals by seven points should they win their games.

For Kaizer Chiefs to top the log, they need both Sundowns and Pirates to drop points consistently and also hope they cancel each other out again when they meet next month.

Amakhosi will need at least 13 wins in their last 16 league matches to win the Betway Premiership.

Can Chiefs win the league this seaon?
