Hunt Gives Update On Stellies Transfer Business

Posted on January 22, 2026

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has given an update on his side’s transfer business, saying the club is still working hard to get more players, especially in the attacking area.

The club has signed three players on short-term deals since Hunt’s arrival, two attackers on loan in Tshegofatso Mabasa and Kobamelo Kodisang, and a defender Mosa Lebusa. Mabasa featured and scored in Stellies’ first game of the year, the 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Tuesday. It was also Hunt’s first game in charge as the side moved up to 13th place on the log with 15 points.

Asked if there are more signings to be made Hunt conceded he needs more attackers and is working hard to build a team.

“We’re short upfront as you can see,” said Hunt.

“I mean, I played Devin [Titus] up front tonight he was magnificent. We’ve only got two strikers. We need three or four, wide players as well. So all these type of areas, we’re looking and we’re working hard, where and how.”

“The January window is always the worst window to try and get players because people don’t want to let their players go. So we’ll try we’ll keep trying. But I’ve got to get the squad better and I’ve got to make the players better with what I’ve got, without crying too much.”

The former Durban City coach also shared his frustrations of getting the new players to full fitness.

“The problem when these players come from these clubs, they haven’t trained,” added the four-time league winner.

“And they say they trained, but you know, they’ve got big squads, so they train on the side that’s not training. So when they come here same as Lebusa and KK. I’ve got CAF now to try and play them fit for the league. So play them fit like tonight he [Mabasa] went 70 [minutes]. I didn’t think he could go that far. But, I mean, he went 70 and we’ll try to play Lebusa when this guy is fit.”
