Senzo Meyiwa’s trial Restart with a new judge.

Following almost a year of trial and the testimonies of five witnesses, the Senzo Meyiwa murder case is beginning anew. The last witness to take the stand was Zandile Khumalo. Retired judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng has now assumed the role of presiding judge, replacing Tshifhiwa Maumela, who had to step down due to health issues.

Meyiwa tragically lost his life during a robbery in Vosloorus in October 2014. Although family members were not present in court on Monday, disbarred Malesela Teffo, who previously represented some of the five accused, was among the observers in court. The accused individuals have been given the opportunity to apply for bail.

With this fresh start, it is hoped that the proceedings will progress more swiftly and yield conclusive outcomes.
