Kaizer Chiefs under pressure as Betway Premiership race resumes

Posted on January 19, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs will return to action in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday, looking for nothing but a win.

Amakhosi will begin their first outing of 2026 coming against Lamontville Golden Arrows on Tuesday, 20 January, at FNB Stadium.

This fixture marks the second meeting between the two sides this season.

The Soweto giants claimed a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium back in August 2025, with Flavio Da Silva scoring the solitary goal.

Kaizer Chiefs eyeing Betway Premiership

Having started the season with three straight league wins, Chiefs have dropped midway into the season and now sit fourth with 24 points from 13 matches, while the visitors occupy 10th place with 16 points from 14 games.

Amakhosi are unbeaten in their last five league encounters, whereas Arrows have suffered four defeats in their previous five matches.

A win could potentially put them in second if Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United drop points midweek.

Defeat however, will likely see Kaizer Chiefs outside contention to win the Betway Premiership this season. With four points separating them and Orlando Pirates, a loss at home will see them drop further behind on the log.

Amakhosi still have the CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup to fight for and February might prove to be their most challenging as they have to play at least 10 matches that month. Failure to start the year with a win could ultimately cost Chiefs the Betway Premiership.

Can Chiefs win the league this season?
