Rulani On New Signings After Alger’s Cup Progression

Posted on January 15, 2026

SA tactician Rulani Mokwena masterminded yet another victory for MC Alger over Ben Aknoun as they sealed passage into the Algerian Cup quarterfinals.

Mokwena had steered his charges into the last 16 of the Coupe d’Algerie after a 2-1 win over USM Khenchela in December.

On Wednesday night, it was a very tightly contested affair which produced just a single goal as Kipré Zunon stepped to score the winning goal in the 96th minute.

With the January transfer window now in full swing, Alger have been linked with the likes of Mustapha Soukkou (Paradou AC), Abderrahmane Meziane (CR Belouizdad) and Rafik Guitane (GD Estoril Praia), and Mokwena admitted that they need new additions.

“Sorry, I can’t give you names but we need new players,” he said.

“We need another three new players, maybe four depending on how the market looks if there’s something very, very interesting, especially in some of the positions we are trying to do some business.

“But like I said, it’s a very complicated market. You can’t sign free agents, you need players that are playing and have rhythm for impact and acclimatisation, and players who are playing are important for their teams. And so, it’s not easy to convince the teams to sell these players.

“Because in Mouloudia, you only need the best.”
