Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Mushin Ertugral has sent well wishes to the club’s chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung on the account of the club’s 56th birthday on 7 January.
Ertugral had two stints at Naturena the first one from 1999-2003 and the last coming in 2007-2009, winning four major trophies across board.
The Turkish mentor reminisced on Amakhosi’s day on insidesasoccer on Omniaudioafrica with Bra Jakes on how it used to be celebrated by Motaung and the legends in Soweto during the coach’s tenure and the importance of current players visiting the club’s birth place and learning its history.
Ertugral further congratulated Motaung on building a great institution and shared his wishes for the latter to be able to celebrate the occasion with a trophy.
“It is [a club close to my heart] and for me the man Mr Motaung, I call him President, it all connects to him because that was his vision and his dream and he is a great man,” said Ertugral.
“He used to take us to the birth place of Kaizer Chiefs in Soweto, to that old house with the sand field in front. They used to play and train there. He did that every year when I was there. I was nearly six years there, five-and-a-half.
“I’m sure they are going to do that today and they’ll probably have old players sitting in one section together talking about the old days. They should listen to that very carefully because we have a generation that hear in one ear and things go out in another ear because they are busy on the telephones.
“I must say that’s history [56th birthday], congratulations to the President. The other ones are only suppliers, I’d say that’s the main man and those ones that were involved in those years, the late ones I must say may their souls rest in peace.
“We have been involved building this club and that’s why the President always takes us to the birth place and I think they need to know those ones that are there now [current players] what it means to wear that jersey.
“When I see all these teams playing Kaizer Chiefs, when they are on song there is 40-50 000 people in the stadium and they have great support from all these branches.
“Happy birthday to Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a great institution and I think there’s nothing more in the heart of the chairman to win a league or win another cup with this team.”
