How Orlando Pirates can look with new signing de Jong in the starting 11

Posted on January 6, 2026

Orlando Pirates will look different in the second half of the season with the signing of Andre de Jong.

The former Stellenbosch player was announced as the Buccaneers’ first signing of this transfer window on Monday.

De Jong joins Pirates after three successful years in the Cape Winelands. His experience and work ethic could be just what the Sea Robbers need to claim the Betway Premiership title.

De Jong is expected to bring new energy to Orlando Pirates

With Mbekezeli Mbokazi gone, Abdeslam Ouaddou will likely start with Nkosinathi Sibisi and Lebone Seema in defence, supported by Thabiso Lebitso and Deon Hotto on the flanks.

In midfield, Makhehlene Makhaula should take a regular starting position in the absence of Sihle Ntuli, while Thalente Mbatha is expected to occupy the attacking midfield role.

On the wings, Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi are anticipated to start, with Relebohile Mofokeng potentially coming in either ahead of the wingers or playing the number 10 position.

De Jong has been signed to play just behind the main striker for Orlando Pirates. Evidence Makgopa should start most games, with Yanela Mbuthuma coming on as a substitute.

The Buccaneers will be in action on January 24 when they face Sekhukhune United. It remains to be seen if Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will give Andre de Jong his debut in that match.

The Sea Robbers are sailing the top of the Betway Premiership after 12 matches. With two trophies won so far this season, the Buccaneers are favourites to clinch their fifth PSL title.
