Orlando Pirates loanee Mofokeng shining at new Botswana side

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates took the decision in the latter stages of 2025 to send one of their most promising youngsters out on loan.

Orlando Pirates DDC product Tefu Mofokeng is already making waves with Botswana-based outfit, Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

In addition, the youngster has changed positions too.

TEFU MOFOKENG’S NEW ROLE

Mofokeng recently signed an extended deal with the Botswana Premier League side, meaning he will see out the remainder of the current campaign at the club.

Since his move, his life has changed – and so has his playing position.

He arrived as a right-back, but has now gone from defence to attack in his new wing forward role.

“He’s a very dynamic guy. It’s funny because when he came here, he was a right back. I looked at him and said, ‘No way, I’ll play you as a wing forward because you’re smart, you can find your way around, and you have an eye for goal’. He has never disappointed,” Mochudi Chiefs coach Pontsho Moloi told FarPost.

PIRATES PRODUCT INSISTS HE IS NOT JUST A WINGER

It turns out the move was the right one as Mofokeng is flourishing up front.

He’s netted six goals and provided four assists in his opening 10 matches of the season.

However, despite his success in attack, Mofokeng insists he is not an out-and-out attacking player.

“I don’t see myself as a winger or full-back; I can play in midfield and on the wing,” Mofokeng stated on the same publication.

Given his rise to form, it will be interesting to see if the Buccaneers decide to bring him back into the club in a more senior role next season.

However, there is no doubt Mochudi Centre Chiefs will fight for his services given the fact that he has proven himself to be such an asset since joining the club.
