Broos Reacts To Bafana AFCON Elimination

Posted on January 5, 2026

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos felt his charges were unlucky not to rally back and earn a draw in their Round of 16 defeat to Cameroon on Sunday evening.

South Africa was looking to book a berth into the last eight but came unstuck as goals from Junior Tchamadeu and Michel Kofane condemned Broos’ charges to a narrow 2-1 defeat and elimination from the 2025 AFCON.

The 73-year-old tactician bemoaned the glorious chances his side missed earlier on in the match and felt they could’ve still salvaged a draw.

“We started very well at the game, and we had chances to score, I think if we had scored, we can never lose the game,” Broos said in his post-match interview on SABC Sport.

“I was happy with what we brought in the first half, so we thought to go on in the second and after a few minutes in the second then we get [concede] a second goal and that is a little bit pity because then we had to score two goals.

“Even we had the chances to score those two goals and to have a draw, but it was not our day today.”
