Ex-Pirates Captain Set for AmaZulu DDC Role

Posted on January 3, 2026

Former Orlando Pirates Thabo Mngomeni is set to join AmaZulu FC as an assistant coach in the DDC team, iDiski Times has learnt.

Usuthu recently made a significant reshuffle within their youth development structures, with several exits including Youth Technical Director Celokuhle Mbanjwa, DDC head coach Mncedisi Sibiya, and other junior team coaches.

The KZN side appears to be refreshing its personnel, placing a renewed focus on strengthening its development structures to produce talent within the club.

The move aligns with a key component of the club’s long-term vision – ‘Project 2032,’ with an aim to groom local talent through well-structured systems.

Mngomeni, who will be part of the new coaching staff in the reserve team, has been serving as an assistant coach at South Africa under-17, known as Amajimbos.

He was part of the coaching team that guided the national side in Qatar a few months ago. Last year, he served as assistant coach under Kurt Lentjies at FC Ravens, and before that, he worked in grassroots football in the Eastern Cape.

AmaZulu DDC side currently sits seventh in the league standings with 17 points accumulated from 12 matches.
