Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates coming early this year

Posted on January 2, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs will face Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at the FNB Stadium, with the Soweto derby arriving early after missing the opening round of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season.

For coaches on both sides of Soweto, it will be a new experience.

Orlando Pirates’ Abdeslam Ouaddou and Kaizer Chiefs’ co-coaches Ben Khalil Youssef and Cedric Kaze will get their first taste of one of Africa’s most famous football matches.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST SEASON?

The 2024/25 season featured three competitive derbies across the PSL and the Nedbank Cup Final.

The Buccaneers had the edge in the league, winning both league encounters, while Amakhosi claimed victory in the cup final.

The first league match on 1 February 2025 at Orlando Pirates’ home ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts, with a late penalty by Patrick Maswanganyi.

The second league fixture on 3 May 2025 at FNB Stadium saw Kaizer Chiefs take an early lead through Glody Makabi Lilepo, but Pirates came back with goals from Evidence Makgopa and Relebohile Mofokeng, securing a 2-1 win and a league double over their rivals.

KAIZER CHIEFS END DECADE-LONG TROPHY DROUGHT

The Glamour Boys had the final word in the season’s Nedbank Cup Final on 10 May 2025 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Gaston Sirino and Yusuf Maart scored for Kaizer Chiefs, while Evidence Makgopa scored for Orlando Pirates.

The 2-1 victory ended a 10-year trophy drought for Kaizer Chiefs and earned them a spot in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
