Yaya On Facing Cameroon In AFCON Last 16

Posted on January 2, 2026

Bafana Bafana midfielder Sphephelo ‘Yaya’ Sithole has shared his thoughts ahead of a tough AFCON clash against African powerhouse Cameroon.

The two sides are set to meet in the AFCON Round of 16 on Sunday, 4 January, at Al Barid Stadium in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00.

Hugo Broos’ side advanced to the knockout stages after finishing second in Group B behind Egypt, securing two wins and one loss from their three group-stage matches.

Sithole says meeting a strong team like Cameroon at this stage is a tough test for them, considering that they haven’t met in over two years now.

“I think it’s going to be a great game, we haven’t played them in the past two or three years,” said Sithole.

“So, I think it’s a great game to test ourselves because if we lose against them, it’s gonna be disappointing for us and a country.

“We know that we need to win that game.”
