Monyane Reveals Biggest Lesson From Broos

Posted on December 31, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs right-back Thabiso Monyane says he has not given up on jumping on the Bafana Bafana World Cup train and revealed the biggest lesson he learnt from coach Hugo Broos.

Monyane, who has represented the country in every age category, broke into the national senior team this year during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, he endured injuries this season that has kept out of the game.

Monyane spoke to iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo about Broos and his ultimate dream to make it to the FIFA World Cup.

“Coach Broos is a man of his word,” Monyane told iDiski Times.

“He wants to see how you work and how you can fit in the system. The biggest lesson I got from him is not to be one-dimensional.

“I’m still hopeful” [of making the World Cup squad]. I know what I can bring to the team. I’ll keep working, keep pushing – because you never know. There will always be competition, especially looking at our league, which is one of the biggest in Africa.

“I look at myself and say I am competing with the best, and to be seen as one of the best right-backs in the country is a blessing. And I know the competition is tight, but as long as I know I can improve and I believe in myself, I know that everything is possible.

“The Bafana opportunity is there; it is up to me to grab it. I know who I am competing against, and I am working hard towards getting there. And that’s just how it is. To play at the World Cup, wearing the Bafana jersey with the Adidas logo, kitted in my F50s – that would be the ultimate honour.”
