Zwane Makes Bold Ngwenya Claim

Posted on February 11, 2026

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane has made a bold claim that striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya would be the current top goal scorer in the league if he had converted most of the chances created by the side.

Zwane’s comments come as the Zimbabwean forward scored the winner in Usuthu’s Nedbank Cup last 32 round clash with Polokwane City on Tuesday and progressed to the last 16 round. The goal was Ngwenya’s seventh for the side in all competitions this season with six coming in the Betway Premiership.

The 23-year-old along with Iqraam Rayners of Mamelodi Sundowns are second on the top goal scorer chats, one goal away from current leaders Junior Dion and Bradley Grobler.

Zwane said he is pleased for his striker and how he is growing in his game and calling him a sniper.

“Look, Thando is growing in stature and obviously as a striker you always want to score a goal,” said Zwane.

“It’s good for him and we are happy for him and not only him. Obviously, he’s there scoring goals with the assist of others but he’s more of a sniper. Trust me, if Thando took many other chances that we have created, I’m talking not half chances, but one vs ones, Thando would have been a top goal scorer in the PSL right now in his first season. But we always say everything happens for a reason.

“Probably if he was already a top goal scorer that was going to be too much for him and we still need him going forward because he’s more of a fighter. And I’m impressed with him today [Tuesday], the fighting spirit he showed, he never died on the field. He never gave up. He was pushing, pressing the keeper. He was forcing them to play the long balls so that we can be able to deal with it in the air and find spaces.

“So, I’m very impressed and I just hope he keeps it that way.”
