Zungu Hopes For Bafana Return

Posted on September 23, 2025

AmaZulu FC midfielder Bongani Zungu hopes he can perform well to help his side and return to the Bafana Bafana squad.

Zungu signed with Usuthu in January following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns. The veteran midfielder has since played a major role in the AmaZulu team, but he hopes to do more and possibly return to the Bafana Bafana setup.

The 34-year-old last played for Bafana Bafana in 2019 during AFCON qualifiers but ‘Ben 10’ now wants to make a return.

“Obviously I’m playing football for that and one of the reasons why I joined AmaZulu was the mental state. I’ve been happy and I’m at a club where I’m happy.” Zungu told the media

“I’m looking to work hard every day. I’m trying to help the team and I’m in an environment where I can do all of that as long as I work hard and I stay fit I think I can do anything.

“I hope for an injury free season so I can help my team achieve more and hopefully being selected for Bafana because playing for Bafana has always been something that I enjoy. Obviously to get there the competition is tight, the other midfielders at Bafana they are doing very well.

“So, I have to be mentally prepared and mentally fit and physically [fit] to try and win coach Broos’ trust and it’s possible you never know. It’s football and things happen.”
