Young Africans are set to appoint South African Paul Matthews as part of the new-look technical team under Romain Folz.
Matthews departs SuperSport United, which has now been rebranded to Siwelele FC after over a decade of services in various roles.
He was also a major part of their recruitment for the first team and development and was credited for the acquisitions for the likes of Teboho Mokoena when he was lured to the club from Harmony Academy, alongside Sipho Mbule.
Ime Okon was one of the more recent discoveries for Matthews, who wore many hats at Matsatsansa, which including scouting for promising talent, recruitment, and a performance analysis.
A respected figure in South African football, holds a UEFA B License, with previous stints at AmaTuks and Jomo Cosmos, and Tembisa Classic, Matthew joins the Yanga set-up with Folz in what’s likely to be a Technical Director role.
During his time at Tuks, Andile Jali, Bongani Khumalo, Grant Kekana, Bongani Zungu and Buhle Mkhwanazi were recruited into the squad where he was an assistant coach and head scout over seven years in two spells, between a two year stint at Thanda Royal Zulu.
Sources have confirmed he’s set to arrive in Tanzania this weekend as the new era at the club begins, off the back of winning four domestic cups in the 2024/25 season.
