Wydad Athletic Club Set to Sign Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns

According to Moroccan outlet *Al-Mountakhab*, Wydad Athletic Club have reached an agreement to sign Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent deal. The move follows weeks of talks between the two clubs.

Lorch joined Sundowns in January 2024 from Orlando Pirates but found playing time limited in a highly competitive squad. Despite his skill and experience, he was not a regular starter. Now, he is set for a new challenge in North Africa with Wydad, one of the continent’s top clubs.

Reports indicate that Wydad were eager to secure Lorch’s signature as they gear up for domestic and CAF Champions League campaigns. The Moroccan side believes the South African winger will add creativity, speed, and experience to their attack.

For Sundowns, Lorch’s exit is part of their squad restructuring under new coach Miguel Cardoso. The club has been making several changes ahead of the 2025/26 season, and letting go of Lorch fits their strategy to refresh the team.

For Lorch, this transfer could be a chance to revive his career. After a quiet spell at Sundowns, Wydad offers him a platform to regain his form and play a key role for a club with strong continental ambitions.

While some fans may be surprised by his quick departure from Sundowns, the move gives Lorch an opportunity to prove himself in a new league. Wydad will count on his attacking ability to boost their chances in major competitions.

The exact transfer fee and contract details remain undisclosed, but an official announcement is expected soon. If confirmed, Lorch’s move will be one of the most notable transfers involving a South African player this window.

This deal marks a major step in Lorch’s career and highlights the increasing player movement between Southern and North African football clubs.
