Orlando Pirates talented winger Relebohile Mofokeng is likely to be playing in his last season for the Buccaneers.
The 21-year-old attacker has netted 19 goals in 106 games for the Buccaneers since making his debut during the 2022/23 season.
For nearly two years, “President yama 2k” has been linked to a move to Europe. Before the start of the season, it was reported that Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, as well as a team from Israel, were keen to sign the youngster.
Where should Relebohile Mofokeng go?
Mofokeng was part of Bafana Bafana’s squad, which was eliminated in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16. He played two matches but failed to make a huge impact.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena admitted that the winger was also wanted in Algeria.
“I know the fans want Mofokeng. I know this, and believe me, I want Mofokeng as well,” the current MC Algers coach said.
Mokwena admitted that Relebohile Mofokeng was less likely to move to North Africa given his European ambitions.
“He’s a South African player that I speak to also about certain things in South African football but it is not a transfer – not just from a financial perspective – because I can tell you the player has had many, many offers and has set his sights on going to Europe.”
Relebohile Mofokeng has had a slow start to the 2025/26 season with injuries halting his progress. Since November, the 21-year-old has rediscovered his form, which earned him an AFCON spot in December.
He scored the winning goal to help Orlando Pirates win the Carling Knockout Cup last month, giving him much-needed confidence heading into a major tournament.
An inspired second half of the season should be enough to secure him a move to Europe. He has the tools and international experience needed to shine abroad.
