Why Orlando Pirates star had tears in his eyes

Posted on September 15, 2025

Orlando Pirates star Sihle Nduli ran the show in midfield as the Buccaneers stormed to a 3-0 MTN8 final triumph over his former side, Stellenbosch FC.

But despite the celebrations, the midfielder couldn’t hide his emotions after the final whistle, even shedding tears as he embraced his former coach Steve Barker.

According to Barker’s account, Nduli, who has quickly become a pillar of strength in Orlando Pirates’ midfield, was delighted to secure his first major trophy with the Soweto giants. On the other hand, he felt a deep sense of sadness for his former teammates and mentor at Stellenbosch, where he spent the defining years of his career.

STEVE BARKER ON ORLANDO PIRATES STAR SIHLE NDULI

“When you see Sihle Nduli doing as well as he is, he has become a pillar of strength for Pirates in midfield, the sweet part is seeing them develop, seeing them grow,” Barker told journalists at the post-match conference.

“After the match, Sihle comes to me and he’s got tears in his eyes. I’m sad on my behalf, (but) you look at him, you wish him well, and you hope he does well,” Barker added.
