Why Nkota should replace Mofokeng at Orlando Pirates
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota’s situation at Al-Ettifaq has become complicated due to limited playing time over the past few months.

The 21-year-old attacker joined the Saudi club last July, and while he started with promise, his playing time has dwindled, leading to only a few appearances in 2026.

The lack of consistent game time under head coach Saad Al-Shehri has sparked rumors that Nkota may need a change of scenery. Reports indicate that Al-Ettifaq has placed a price tag on him.

Why Pirates should consider loaning back Nkota

Orlando Pirates may not be able to afford the R60 million fee to bring their former winger back, but they could explore the option of loaning him for a season or six months.

Nkota remains under contract with Al-Ettifaq, and if he can regain his form in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), it would benefit both parties.

An improved Nkota at Pirates could increase his value, benefiting the Saudi club in the long run. A move to a different league might not be feasible unless a European team is willing to pay the R60 million asking price.

Currently, Nkota hasn’t performed well enough to warrant interest from Europe’s top teams, and with his chances of making the Bafana Bafana World Cup squad appearing slim, a return to the PSL may be his best option.

Additionally, his former teammate Relebohile Mofokeng is set to leave the PSL following another outstanding season, the best of his career.

Nkota could return to Pirates as a replacement for Mofokeng, where he can refine his skills and develop his game, better preparing him for future challenges abroad.

The Buccaneers need another right-winger and perhaps bringing their former player might just boost their squad with Mofokeng expected to depart.

Should the Buccaneers sign Nkota on loan?
