During his playing days, Katlego Mashego was known for his swift left foot.

The retired striker from Bushbuckridge ranks among the top 10 highest scorers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), with a total of 88 goals.

Throughout his career, Mashego was a journeyman, playing for several clubs, including Hellenic, Silver Stars, SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows, and Chippa United.

Katlego Mashego peaked between 2008 and 2013

He earned 22 caps for Bafana Bafana between 2006 and 2014, scoring twice. Mashego was part of the squad that competed in the 2009 Confederation Cup, where the team finished fourth.

Katlego Mashego began his career with Hellenic, but it was at Silver Stars where he had the opportunity to truly shine. His move to SuperSport United made him a household name and led to his selection for the national team. After three years with SuperSport, Mashego made a significant transfer to Orlando Pirates in 2009.

During his time with the Buccaneers, he became a fan favourite, scoring crucial goals against rivals Kaizer Chiefs. He won a treble with Pirates before going on loan to Golden Arrows and later moving permanently to Moroka Swallows. At Swallows, Mashego rejuvenated his career, scoring 13 goals in 28 appearances during his first season.

He later transferred to Mamelodi Sundowns but struggled with form and game time. In 2016, he joined Chippa United, where he eventually ended his footballing career.

When was Katlego Mashego in his prime?

Mashego played his best football between 2008 and 2013, during his time at SuperSport and Orlando Pirates. In those years, he won three league titles with SuperSport. While at SuperSport, Swallows, and Pirates, Mashego scored over 50 goals across all competitions in eight years, which is impressive for a striker.

Where is Mahoota now?

In 2021, he joined Tshwane South College FC, where he assisted former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Koketso Mmotong at the Tshwane SAB League side.

Katlego Mashego has since ventured into business after his retirement. He has appeared in several podcasts in recent months, but has expressed his desire to help develop young footballers.
