When’s the second leg and what’s needed?

Posted on September 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs missed a perfect start to the CAF Confederation Cup after a 1-0 loss to Angola’s Kabuscorp in Luanda, but the tie is far from over with a second leg battle coming to Soweto.

Julio’s 59th-minute winner decided what was a tight game. Amakhosi are now facing the heat to turn things around in Johannesburg this weekend.

The all-important preliminary round qualifier is set for Saturday, 27 September, at the FNB Stadium. Kick-off will be at 15:00.

WHAT KAIZER CHIEFS NEED TO ADVANCE TO THE SECOND CAF CONFEDERATION CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND

The calculation is simple, but the action will be decisive. Carrying a 1-0 deficit to Mzansi, the Phefeni Glamour Boys will need at least a 2-0 win to advance, while a 1-0 victory will take the tie to penalty kicks, a scene no Kaizer Chiefs supporter is eager for.

HOW AMAKHOSI LINE-UP IN LUANDA

Brandon Petersen, Zitha Kwinika, Inacio Miguel, Aden McCarthy, Paseka Mako, Thabo Cele, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Pule Mmodi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Glody Lilepo, Flavio da Silva.

Substitutes: Fiacre Ntwari, Reeve Frosler, Bradley Cross, George Matlou, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Gaston Sirino, Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba, Ashley Du Preez.

In the meantime, Kaizer Chiefs have a Betway Premiership game to focus on. Marumo Gallants will visit the FNB Stadium on Wednesday at 17:30.

The Soweto giants are currently in third place after six games, four wins, a draw, and a defeat. Wednesday’s visitors are ninth with two wins, three draws and two losses.
