South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are on course for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon 2025) last 16 round, thanks to Monday’s 2-1 over Angola.
Oswin Appollis opened the scoring after 21 minutes, before Lyle Foster cancelled out Angola’s equaliser through Fredy.

WHO ARE BAFANA BAFANA FACING IN THE AFCON NEXT GROUP B MATCH?
Mzansi’s next Afcon 2025 assignment comes on Friday, 26 December, when Hugo Broos’ side take on Egypt at Stade de Marrakech. Kick off is set for 17:00.
Egypt also enjoyed a positive start to their Afcon campaign, edging Zimbabwe 2-1 in their opening match. As expected, it was Mohamed Salah who found an injury-time winner to bag three points for the Pharaohs.
That result means both Bafana Bafana and Egypt head into Friday’s clash on three points. Mzansi have reason for confidence. At Afcon 2019 in Egypt, Bafana Bafana stunned the hosts with a famous 1-0 last-16 victory, thanks to Thembinkosi Lorch’s late winner in Cairo.
It was one of South Africa’s proudest tournament moments in recent years, thanks to former coach Stuart Baxter’s tactical acumen in defence.
REQUIRED RESPECT FOR EGYPT
Nevertheless, Egypt still command respect and fear. The Pharaohs are Africa’s most successful Afcon nation with seven titles, while Bafana Bafana lifted the trophy once on home soil in 1996.
South Africa’s final Group B match will be against Zimbabwe on Monday, 29 December, a fixture that could become a formality if Bafana Bafana grab three points against Egypt.
