‘What I told Mfundo Vilakazi’ – Cheeseboy

Posted on November 13, 2025

Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang “Cheeseboy” Mokoena has shared advice he gave to Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi.

The 19-year-old has had an impressive season, having represented the country at the U/20 World Cup. The skilful attacker has carried his international form into club football, scoring in Amakhosi’s last match against Orbit College.

Speaking on Soccer Beat, Mokoena praised Mfundo Vilakazi’s form at Chiefs this season.

“Mfundo is my boy, I love him so much, and a lot of fans love him,” the former Pirates star said.

“I don’t need to be a Kaizer Chiefs fan to like a player. He is one of the young talents who needs more game time. The more he plays, the more he will get better,” he said.

Although Vilakazi has impressed, Cheesboy feels the teenager still needs to take the team to the next level.

“I spoke to him and I said, ‘be patient and you are going to get your chance, you are a quality player, so just work on the things your coach wants to work on’. He will need to improve on making runs off the ball and trying to create those opportunities.”

Mokoena felt Chiefs should play Vilakazi as a ‘number 10’ instead of a winger. He felt the youngster was incapable of getting away from his marker, which made him ineffective as a winger.

In recent matches, Mfundo Vilakazi has formed a formidable partnership with Mduduzi Shabalala. The duo come from the club’s youth product and have often been hailed as the future of Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi have had a good season so far in the league, occupying third on the table. They also reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stages for the first time.

Can Vilakazi become one of the best players in the country?
