‘We will see the old Rele Mofokeng again’ – Chippa

Orlando Pirates legend Steve ‘Chippa’ Lekoelea says Relebohile Mofokeng will regain his form soon.

The 20-year-old talented winger has struggled to recapture his form from last season, which saw him contest for PSL Player of the Season. In the six matches he played, Mofokeng has not scored or assisted.

Chippa, though, feels it’s a matter of time before the Bafana Bafana attacker finds his feet this season.

“I have noticed that Rele’s performance has been declining. There is clearly something on his mind,” Lekoelea told KickOff.

“When it comes to talent, he has it in abundance. He just needs to be mentally strong, and then we will see the old Rele again,” he added.

Mofokeng yet to score or provide an assist this season

“The coach has been playing him in various positions because he is an all-round player. He is still young, and as a big club, we shouldn’t place too much pressure or have unrealistic expectations for such a young player,” Lekoelea said.

Mofokeng has played in various positions under Abdeslam Ouaddou this season, but has not looked very comfortable in the ‘no.10’ position. His form dipped towards at end of the 2024/25 campaign but a good pre-season gave supporters hope that the youngster could return with a bang.

In recent weeks, Mofokeng has been linked to various clubs in the Middle East, North Africa as well as the MLS.

Can Rele bounce back?
